Sometimes the right effort is put into the wrong endeavor

Persistence only pays when focused on the right activity

I’m on my way home from Cabo as I write this.

I went for my nephews wedding.

It was a good time, and I walked away with plenty to discuss with my therapist.

After the wedding I decided to take my first vacation in 7 years.

I chose a charming small hotel in downtown Cabo. I prefer staying near city centers where it's easy to walk around because walkability is important to me.

I do this for two reasons 1) it saves me Money on Ubers, 2) you can go out, have some lunch or a drink, then come back to the hotel, rest, and go back out.

While walking the city of Cabo however, you’re constantly getting propositioned by people to buy something.

Obviously all the store owners want you to come in and make a purchase, but I found it really interesting how even the restaurant patrons holler at you to come in.

I also found the massage parlors hilarious, that, well, weren’t offering only a massages for only 40 dollars. 😉😉

What I found most impressive about these people, and equally annoying is that they are incessantly persistent.

Even when you say no after displaying 0 interest they still try to get you to come in as you walk away.

That kind of persistence is an immensely valuable skill to possess, if these people applied themselves in other, more leveraged jobs, they could probably earn millions of dollars.

One of my favorites though, was when I walked past a guy and he says, “hey, you dropped something” knowing full well I didn’t, I turn around, and he says “na, but come in to the restaurant its good!”

I laughed and gave him a compliment for his marketing tactic.

That kind of work, constantly trying to sell strangers on things they don’t really need or want is exhausting work takes tremendous resilience.

Most people can barely ask for more water at a dinner table. But if you don’t ask, you won’t get.

But the real key is to ask creatively. Be like the guy that came up with the “you dropped something” tactic. Be persistent like the rest, but different from them to get what you’re looking for.

Because just telling people to come in for no reason wont work as well a strategy that sets you apart from the competition paired with their persistence along with the customer possessing a real desire for what you have to sell them.
