I’m the only on with the idea!
Belief for getting investment
Todd is one of the most unique humans I’ve ever met.
He’s one of my best friends and holds some of the best mental models I’ve ever seen.
He’ll say something in the middle of a discussion we’re having, and I’ll think to myself, “god damn, that’s such a confident belief system, and definitely the way I should think about it.”
Recently he spouted something out when we were at a networking event talking to a mutual friend about investing and investors.
To preface, a lot of people chase investors, and grovel at their feet because the investor has the money the entrepreneur needs of course!
This is a terrible mindset to take into negotiations because you’ll very easily get taken advantage of since you’re not willing to walk away if your needs aren’t met.
Not Todd.
He said his belief is:
“I’m the only one with the idea, and there are plenty of people with money.”
Damn.
What a position of power.
Not needy at all. They need to sell him on why they should give him their money and why they should be able to come along for the ride.
This shows confidence in the idea, as well as his ability to pull it off.
To be clear, to hold a belief like this you need to have the skills to bring it to life, and the confidence that the idea is top notch. Also that you can find other investors. Clearly there are a bunch of sub beliefs connected and intertwined this core one.
Yet, as an entrepreneur, or even an employee looking to get a raise, if you can hold a belief where they should be selling you when you’re technically trying to sell them, then you’ll become unstoppable.
One more side note, this isn’t being coincided or cocky, there’s no, “I’m better than every one else, no one can come up with better ideas than me,” underlying this belief Todd has. It’s just a lock solid, you won’t convince me of something different.
He’s taking the position, hey if you’re not a fit as an investor, then I’m not taking your money, and if you don’t want to give me the money, then that’s fine, other people have it, but you’re the one missing out on something amazing.
…and they are, Hunters of Avalon is a remarkable Experince. it’s like D&D meets, adult summer camp, meets escape rooms. I’ll be investing when I have the money, I’ve already invested a ton of time into it, which has been one of the best decisions of my life.

So what belief can you take where you may have to sell someone on something, but really they should be selling you on it?
